Wilfred Owen (1893 - 1918) was a Shropshire-born poet and soldier who was born at Plas Wilmot, Weston Lane, Oswestry and is known throughout the World as one of the greatest World War I poets.
Between 1911 and 1913 Owen lived at the Vicarage in Dunsden, South Oxfordshire and 'The Dunsden Owen Association' is an organisation which recognises this:

In 1915 Owen joined the Artist Rifles. In April, near Savy Wood, France he was under a heavy barrage of shells; when at one point a shell exploded two metres above his head. Before he woke he had been blown into the air and invalided back to England and then on to Craiglockhart War Hospital where in 1917 he met Siegfried Sassoon.
They often discussed poetry together and Sassoon's influence shows itself first in 'The Dead Beat' then in 'Anthem for Doomed Youth', which was written at Craiglockhart in1917. 'Futility' was written at Ripon in July 1918. Wilfred Owen returned to the front and was killed on 4th November 1918 whilst crossing the Sambre-Oise canal, France.
The Wilfred Owen Association is a national organisation formed in 1989 to commemorate Wilfred Owen's life and work. Website:
