On the 20 July 1969 the world watched as Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldring took the first steps on the moon while Michael Collins remained in orbit around the moon.
This event was an unprecedented scientific and engineering event.
Australia had a key role in this event supplying the video feed via the Parks Radio Telescope on that historical day.
The crew of Apollo 11 returned safely to Earth on the 24 July 1969.
The Tablelands Amateur Radio Group will be operating a special event station VI50ML from the 13 July until the 21 July 2019 to commemorate this event.
