27th Roaming Camp
of the
Carpathian Society of Transylvania
Every year the Carpathian Society of Transylvania (Erdélyi Kárpát Egyesület - EKE) organizes a so called "Roaming Camp", a summer camp focused on hiking in the hills and mountains of Transylvania. It is called roaming beacuse every year the camp is held at a different site, allowing participants to explore new areas of Transylvania, the various mountain ranges, hills, natural reserves as well as cultural and historical sites.
In 2018 the Camp is organized at Feketehalom / Codlea / Zeiden, Barcaság / Țara Bârsei / Burzenland, Eastern Transilvania, with many hikes in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians and also in the Saxon and Csángó villages around.
Following the success of last year activity YP26EKE, this year, in the period of 30 July - 5 August 2018, HAM licensed members of the Carpathian Society of Transylvania, as well as other participants to the camp will again be active this time using the callsign YP27EKE, from the site of the camp and from the mountain peaks touched by the hikes organized during the camp.
The main purpose of the activation is to demonstrate HAM radio to the participants of the summer camp, so operations will be mostly demonstartive kind, where sporadic contacts with explaining in between as well as continuous calls performed where the responders will be collectively identified by country and also used for training on identifying callsigns from phonetic alphabet
The base site of the activation will be within the range of o natural reserve, so contacts will be also valid for the WWFF program, and portable operations during the dayhikes will take place on summits active in the SOTA program. YOFF-0177: Măgura Codlei / Kotla Natural Reserve ROSPA0037 - a special protected area on the southern end of the Persány mountains, with many rare species of plants and some protected birds at the nearby lakes.The camp is situated at the edge of the forest on the outskirts of the city, in a well known picnic site inside the protected area. While it is well away from the noisy city structures, it is along a valley so takeoff angles and the compromise portable equipment will have an impect on our signal.
YO/MC-031: Măgura Branului / Törcsvári Magura, on a scenery route between the Barcaság basin and the Bran-Rucăr highlands, hike number 19 of the Roaming Camp, on tuesday, wednesday and thursday, a medium difficulty hike, with demonstrative SOTA operation on the summit using an FT-817 and a fishing pole antenna
